Vinayaka Krishna Gokak, popularly known as V. K. Gokak was an eminent Kannada writer. An English scholar who was awarded ‘First Class Honours’ by Oxford University, V. K. Gokak was a prolific writer in both English and Kannada. A precious and priceless asset to Kannada literature, V. K. Gokak’s unparalleled work has won him immense appreciation and prestigious awards such as the ‘Padma Shri’ from the Government of India, and the Jnanapith as well.
In 2010, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore and Vinakaya Gokak Vangmaya Trust jointly instituted the Prof. V. K. Gokak Award to recognize and felicitate scholars and professors who have made a difference in their respective fields. The luminaries chosen for the award are personalities who have not only enlightened society with their works but have also made a difference by introducing novel methods to enhance the functioning of their respective fields.
The Prof. V. K. Gokak Award for the year 2021 has been conferred upon Dr. S. G. Jainapura and Dr. Meena Deshpande Mahishi.
